Allison Crowe, who performs so often at St. Andrew’s United Church, is lending her voice to the call for donations to upgrade the historical building.

Crowe performs a rare summer concert in Nanaimo at St. Andrew’s Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in support of the church’s Catch the Spirit campaign.

Crowe, who performs her annual Christmas Tidings concert at the church, will perform all-season favourites from her albums, including Spiral, which was released earlier this year.

Crowe’s musical foundation in classical and jazz blends uniquely with rock, folk and soul to appeal to fans of classic singer-songwriters such as Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell, alongside rock/pop bands from The Beatles and Pearl Jam, to artists such as Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos, Aretha Franklin and Counting Crows.

While some are still bewildered by today’s digital environment, and fret the decline of the old-style record industry, years ago Crowe set course for creative and commercial independence.

While steadily building an audience for her music, she’s garnered praise in the traditional media – print, radio and television – alongside widespread appreciation in the alternative media and in the global online community where Crowe is especially active and progressive.

Crowe, born in Nanaimo, regularly tours Europe when not based in her Atlantic home of Corner Brook, Nfld.
