School names its library for parent
The Chronicle Herald - Fri. Nov 7 - 5:41 AM
It's not every day that an ordinary parent is picked to have part of a building named after them.
But then again, Faye LeBlanc isn't exactly an ordinary parent, especially according to the staff and students at Fairview Heights Elementary School.
The Halifax school hosted a special ceremony Thursday night to honour the parent volunteer, who according to a news release has raised more than $125,000 for Fairview Heights through her "visionary efforts." In return, the school is naming its library after Ms. LeBlanc.
"Eight years ago, when Faye was asked by a teacher to volunteer, she responded with astounding vigour and creativity," the release said. "Her programs have helped to purchase books, computers and other school necessities."
Some of Ms. LeBlanc's accomplishments include kicking off Pizza and Piano, which brought performers such as Allison Crowe and Dan Aykroyd into the school, starting a program that provides holiday books for students every December and organizing a fundraiser called Beatles for Books, which raised more than $13,000 for the library.
