Vigil planned for Lisa-Marie Young
Jul 01 2006
Lisa Marie Young was last seen four years ago and her family is holding a candelight vigil in honour of the anniversary of her disappearance and to remind people she is still missing.
Relatives and friends are gathering July 8 at Swy-a-lana Lagoon around 4 p.m. to celebrate her life and have a pot-luck dinner.
"We're just basically going to get together and remember Lisa and keep her memory out there," said Joanne Young, her mother.
Lisa, who would have celebrated her 24th birthday with family and friends in May, was last seen leaving a house party in Nanaimo June 30, 2002.
"Some guy in a Jag was going to give her a lift to Subway (sandwich shop) for a bite to eat and then take her home but she never made it to Subway or home," said Joanne.
She said the vigil was postponed from the anniversary Friday to July 8 because as the anniversary approaches, she is having a hard time coping. She said she still has hope Lisa will be found, citing a case where a Vancouver woman believed to have been missing for many years contacted home.
"It's always part of you that you have to have that hope," said Joanne.
