Allison Crowe & Special Guest in Concert Fundraiser for
Westcoast Community Resources Society
"Allison Crowe has a voice to fall in
love with. She is from Vancouver Island in Canada, descended from
Irish and Manx stock. She's exactly the sort of artist who can
make serious headway on her own label and that's just what she's
doing," says the UK's Record of the Day.
Now living and recording in Newfoundland, the
celebrated singer-songwriter-pianist returns to our west coast to
debut songs from her upcoming album, "This Little Bird",
at a fundraiser for the Westcoast Community Resources Society.
"With the soul of Janis Joplin and the tenderness of fellow
Canuck Sarah McLachlan, Crowe rocks with her own unique brand of
roots charm", adds Exclaim! magazine.
In concert, Crowe's diverse repertoire ranges
from her many original songs, through interpretations of music by
such artists as Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, Tori
Amos, and Ani DiFranco, with an occasional Broadway show tune or
Pearl Jam cover adding to the mix. On Amazon.com, the world's
largest online store, Crowe's recordings are perennially among the
top downloaded tracks in categories as varied as Alternative Rock,
Vocal Jazz, Blues, Contemporary Folk, Singer-Songwriter, and
Traditional British & Celtic Folk.
Allison Crowe is delighted to return to
Ucluelet for an encore performance to help raise awareness and
funds for the Westcoast Community Resources Society. Committed to
ending all forms of abuse, including systemic power imbalances and
family violence, the WCRS, in partnership with other services and
resources, promotes the equality, diversity and well being of all
in the sister communities of Ucluelet and Tofino and beyond. The
WCRS is dedicated to providing responsive, safe and supportive
services to individuals and families while supporting their right
to explore options and make choices in all areas of their lives.
Compassion, tolerance, non-violence, self-empowerment, and a
non-sexist, non-racist consciousness are among the shared values
and goals of the Society.
Special guest artist on this evening is Shawn
Stephenson, who will perform an atmospheric set that features
guitar live-looping and creative musical expression.
